About Australian Mint Oils & Flavours

Australian Mint Oils & Flavours (AMOF) is a family owned and operated Australian company. Established in 1989, AMOF began growing peppermint oil (M. piperita) in the foothills of the Australian Alps, 400km north of Melbourne.

Since that time, AMOF has developed from a grower-producer to a producer-compound supplier of mint oils and other flavours and aromas. AMOF specialise in the production, processing, and technology of mint oils, and is a high-volume supplier of mint oils and other flavours throughout Australia and southeast Asia. AMOF supply a large percentage of the mint oil utilised in Australia, and export the majority of its volume.

We purchase under contract from our supply partners here in Australia, as well as importing mint oils grown in India, China, USA, and Canada. Our strength of ties with growers, and in-depth knowledge of the mint oil global market, is of great value to our customers, ensuring we maintain continuity of supply of quality mint oils.

Our expertise: what sets us apart

Our talented team of chemists, product and industry experts, work together to ensure we deliver quality products and service.

Our onsite laboratory is equipped with GC, GCMS and SPME technology. This technology is used as part of our raw material risk management program, as well as analysis of products to determine composition for flavour and aroma matching and profiling.

We conduct both internal and external testing (NATA certified) on batches to monitor pesticide residues and other contaminants including heavy metals, thus ensuring product purity, safety, and quality every time.

Validation of results for BP, USP, EP accredited oils under TGA requirements is available and carried out in government accredited NATA laboratories.

We specialise in analysing targeted products and reproducing cost effectively.

We work with our customers on the development of new products, ensuring dosage rate and format is correct for intended application.

Australian Mint Oils & Flavours distillation equipment

Leading technology

Mint oil is not a chemical. It is a delicate natural substance comprising of 250+ components, each derived from nature.

AMOF has a state-of-the-art low temperature batch distillation plant.

By rectifying ‘crude’ mint oil and other oils at minus 1atmosphere (-760 mg Hg), AMOF carries out the second distillation at 60-70°C. Many suppliers of mint oil rectify at approx. 150-160°C, resulting in burnt oil.

At AMOF, the low temperature distillation ensures that the oil maintains its pure natural tastes, free from burnt taints and removes bitter terpene fractions. All mint oils contain terpenes which are volatile and contribute a bitter taste to the ‘crude’ mint oil.

Our highly technical distillation plant is leading the way, delivering exceptional mint oils and flavours.
