Australian mint crop update

We are now in the midst of Winter in Australia and the mint crops remain dormant. In mid – late September, the crops will begin to shoot as the ground warms up and the Spring growth commences. This will signal the start of the mint season, and the crops will undergo their fertiliser and weed control programs. In late Spring and early Summer, the crops will undergo their fertiliser, rust prevention, and irrigation programs, leading up to harvest early in the New Year.

The only mint type grown in Australia in commercial quantities for oil production is Mentha Piperita and the area under crop has remained constant over the past few years with expectations of increased acreage over the next 2-4 years.
